Chiangrai is a fascinating area apart from the great golf. If time permits its well worth taking the Golden Triangle excursion. Start by driving to the ancient town of Chiangsaen, a river port that trades with China down the mighty Mekong River, on to the Golden Triangle viewpoint where Laos, Burma and Thailand meet. Then travel to the border town of Mae Sai, which faces its Burmese counterpart Tachilek. The border is open again now so it is possible to enter Burma across the bridge.
